The "Green Beret" launched by Chris Reeve Tool Company in 2002. This design was also personally designed by Bill Hasse, who has now turned to a full keel handle structure with a threaded handle shell, compared to Chris's initial development of a "pure steel" handle straight knife. It is dedicated to US Navy SEAL Neil Roberts, who died in the battle for Takur Ghar in March 2002, becoming the first special forces soldier to sacrifice on the Afghan battlefield.
The US Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, are composed of different groups with varying regional responsibilities. Everyone must receive the same training to qualify for special forces. Based on their specific skills and language proficiency, they were assigned to one of the combat teams.
The Special Forces Airborne Division (Green Berets) is stationed in all Pacific countries from North Korea to Indonesia. The application areas of these units - more or less all countries along the Pacific coast - are the name of this knife.
The first group received training in jungle, mountainous, and even underwater applications, requiring a knife that can be reliably used in all environments and done very well.
At that time, the commander and a sergeant major of the special forces airborne troops contacted me and asked if I could design such a knife.
I am pleased to accept this task and have been invited to the Army Special Operations (SFGA) headquarters to discuss technical and operational details with the team commander, commander-in-chief, and selected green beret soldiers. Throughout the day, special forces soldiers outlined their needs, and I transformed this information into a feasible design.
Chris and I then demonstrated some prototypes, and this knife ultimately came from Prototype 1, which was accepted by the Special Forces Airborne. The Pacific straight knife was born in this way. Chris then went to great lengths to establish and maintain the highest production standards. So far, not a single blade has malfunctioned during operation.
